Your details stay on your device.
Bag Tags runs entirely in your browser. There is no account, no server, and no database. The names, emails, and phone numbers you enter are never sent anywhere. They are saved only in this browser on this device, and your PDF is created on your device.
- No serverNothing you type is uploaded. The app has no backend to send it to.
- No trackingNo analytics, no cookies, no ads, no third-party scripts or fonts.
- Works offlineOnce the page has loaded, every feature works without a connection.
What happens to what you enter
| Data | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Tag data (header, name, email, phones) | This browser's local storage, under bag-tags-tag-data, when you press Save. |
| Templates (shape, sizes, margins) | This browser's local storage, under bag-tags-templates, when you press Save. |
| Your last selection | This browser's local storage, under bag-tags-selection. |
| The PDF | Generated in your browser and saved to your device as a download. |
| The QR code | Generated in your browser. It is drawn into the preview and the PDF. |
| Exported backups | A JSON file saved to your device as a download. |
Local storage belongs to this browser on this device. It is not a cookie, it is not sent with web requests, and other websites cannot read it. It is not encrypted, though, so anyone using the same browser profile can open Bag Tags and see what you saved.
What does leave your device
Only things you choose to send, plus the page itself:
- Loading the page. Your browser downloads the Bag Tags files from wrightperspective.net, which is hosted by GitHub Pages. Like any website visit, the host can see your IP address and browser type. These requests never include anything you enter in the app.
- Printing. The PDF goes wherever you send it: your printer, a print shop, or a cloud print service.
- Files you save. If your Downloads folder syncs to a cloud service, your PDFs and exported backups sync with it.
- The tag itself. The printed tag and its QR code show your contact details. That is their purpose: anyone who finds your bag can read them or scan the code to save your contact.
Removing your data
- Select an entry and press × next to its Save button to delete it.
- To remove everything, clear this site's data in your browser settings (often called "Cookies and site data"). This deletes all saved templates and tag data. Export a backup first if you want to keep them.
- Private or incognito windows discard local storage when you close them.
Outside the app's control
- Browser extensions that you have allowed to read all websites can read this page too.
- Other copies of the app. This policy covers the copy published here. Someone hosting a modified copy could change how it behaves.
Check it yourself
You don't have to take this page's word for it:
- Open Bag Tags, then turn off Wi-Fi or switch on airplane mode. Editing, saving, PDF download, and import/export all keep working.
- Open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab, and use the app. After the initial page load, no requests are made.
- Read the source. There is no build step, so the files your browser runs are the source: app.js and core.js (plus the page itself, via View Source), and the two bundled libraries, jsPDF and qrcode-generator.
